Life events

Life events can be difficult, exciting, or both. St. John’s has a professional staff and dedicated volunteers to accompany you on the journey.

Baptisms

Prior to a Baptism, individuals or parents of children being baptized will meet with the Senior Pastor. This time is designed to give families and individuals an understanding of the sacrament of Holy Baptism and the importance of having a faith family to support them in their faith journey. Holy Baptism is open to everyone at any age. Baptisms take place during the worship service. Families are given the opportunity to choose the date and service they prefer.

Contact Gudrun Dunt for more information or to schedule a meeting with the Senior Pastor.

Weddings

Weddings are permitted, including the hosting of same-gender weddings within our church, only when one of the couple to be married is a member of the congregation or the child or grandchild of a presently active member. Any member wanting to schedule a wedding must be an active member on the rolls of the church for a full twelve months before a wedding date can be scheduled and before a wedding deposit can be received. There are several guidelines, based on years of experience at St. John’s, that must be followed. Please be assured that our goal as St. John’s staff is to help make your wedding meaningful and memorable for you, your family, and friends, as well as the congregation.

Funerals

In the midst of life is death. Yet in our Christian understanding, in the midst of death, there is life. By facing death wisely and well, we enable the resources of the whole Christian community to be with the family and the larger community. The pastors of St. John's officiate at all funeral and memorial services held at St. John's. Guest clergy and family members may participate in the service.

Facility use policy

St. John's Lutheran Church campus is a resource to engage and equip people to embrace Jesus Christ. As our witness to Christ in the community, the facilities are available to community organizations whose values align with the core values of St. John's. Due to limited space and staff resources:

  • St. John's activities, events, and meetings take priority over external requests

  • not all requests will be honored

  • the church reserves the right to accept or deny the use of the building at any time
