From Pastor Lyn
“Why did the girl throw the clock out the window?”
“She wanted to see time fly!”
Time certainly does seem to go by quickly… most days!
As the early church continued to grow in the generation after Christ’s resurrection, many Gentiles (Greeks) were being added to their numbers. Greeks had a two-fold concept of time. Chronos was an understanding of time related to tasks, lists, days, and dates. Cairos was an understanding of time that captured the big picture from a large universal view of life and the world. The long stretch—the overarching view of time that God sees, but that is hard for us humans to imagine…let alone focus on in our Chronos-led lives.
But for me, the time has come when God is calling me to just “be”… to take a view of life in a bigger and slower picture. To rest in God’s love with my husband, family, and friends.
With that said, I will be retiring from my call here at St. John’s on June 30.
It is such a joy to look back at all the amazing ways God has blessed us together on this journey of faith. Your graciousness and affirmation have taken us through five years with me as your Interim Deacon to Pastoral Intern and finally to Associate Pastor. Through
it all, God’s faithfulness through you has been a shining beacon in our life together.
There are many congregations in our area without pastors, so I have been filling in wherever needed. I hope to continue helping these churches in retirement.
Thank you seems so inadequate to say. I am grateful—to the staff, to each of you, and to God for this time to be in ministry together. May God bless you richly as you continue to share Christ’s light to each other and the world!

Madagascar—Did You Know?
Rainforest Falls is coming this summer! The VBS offering will go to the Malagasy Lutheran Church in Madagascar. Of the approximately 200,000 species of animals found on Madagascar, around 150,000 are found nowhere else. There are more than 100 species of lemurs on the island of Madagascar, and 90% of its wildlife is native to the island. There are no lions, giraffes, or hippos in Madagascar, despite what is sometimes portrayed! Despite Madagascar’s wealth of biodiversity, 90% of the population lives on less than $2 a day.
