Thrive is our small group catechism ministry at St. John’s! Thrive meets on Wednesday nights from the end of August to the early part of May.  3x a month over 120 6-8th graders and their leaders (Guides) gather for:

  • Prayer, Bible study, service, social outings, team building, worship and… Above all, a relationship with God and each other.

  • Family Life, Friends, School/Other Activities, Sexuality, Self Image and Life Dangers

Thrive Details

    Thrive is designed to grow a junior high student (6-8th grades) in faith through the care and nurture of a small group. Christian relationships are the goal of the Thrive program. Each small group has usually 5-8 youth and 1-2 adults (Guides). Youth are grouped by gender. Thrive meets 3 times per month: 6:45-8:30pm

Thrive Schedule

    1st and 3rd Wednesdays: Learning Events: large group presentation and then small group time.
    2nd Wednesdays: Group Building Events: service, social or team-building as a small group.
    4th and 5th Wednesdays: Guides meet regularly on the 4th Wednesdays. Youth are off the 4th and 5th Wednesdays.

Thrive Focus

    The Bible and Luther’s Small Catechism are the only study materials we use!
    Our topics for discussion, reflection, and spiritual growth include:  Family Life, Friendships, Dangers, School, Sexuality, Martin Luther, Self-image and more!

Thrive Guides

    Thrive Guides are adults who co-lead a small group of boys or girls.  Guides provide a caring and nurturing environent for both the whole group and each individual.  Guides lead discussion among the group and provide structure and discipleship throughout the 3 years of Thrive.
