Pack
the Truck This Saturday!
Great Parent/Student Opportunity
This
Saturday (Oct. 31) from 9am-4pm St. John's is host to the Lutheran
World Relief
In-Gathering. Lutheran World Relief has helped people all
over
the world and you can be part of this effort! St. John's is
needing older children, youth, and adults to help load a tractor
trailer full of needed items that Lutheran churches from around the
area will deliver to St. John's this Saturday. Meet in the
parking lot and help unload boxes from vehicles, carry boxes to the
trailer, or even help pack the boxes in the trailer. Breakfast and lunch is provided
free!
Come for an hour, a half-hour, or stay longer (then trick-or-treat in
the evening)! We need your help and Mr. Rob will see you
there!.
Jr.
High Team Still Needs Members
We still
have openings for a couple people to join our congregation's Jr. High
Ministry Team. The Team meets 4-5x per year and our next
meeting
is tentatively set for January 11, 2010 Contact Rob
for more information on how you can help shape and evaluate our 6-8th
grade ministries.
Offer
Your Student Age-Appropriate Discipline
Parenting
expert Jim Burns says the goal of discipline is to teach kids
responsibility, not to evoke obedience. "Our job is not to always
prevent our children from making mistakes but rather to make certain
they learn from their mistakes," he says.
Check out this month's theParentLink newsletter
for some great articles and tips.
Music
and Movie Reviews
Check
out music reviews of crowd
fave, Dave Matthews Band
and popular crossover Christian band, Switchfoot.
Also read a review of the upcoming movie release, "Twilight Saga: New Moon."

Try
A Worship Summary
Really,
both parent and student can try them out! Worship Summaries
are a great way to connect more strongly to the worship service by
asking you to record your experience (not just spit back trivia).
Did you know the Worship Summaries are completely redesigned
this year? Blank "Summaries" are available at the Jr. High
Bulletin Board just up the small Parish Life Center staircase on the
lower level (It's between two bathrooms!)
Take a Look. Download a copy here!

Service Idea
Operation
Christmas Child
Join
in on the fun! Help pack a shoe box to gift a child this
Christmas! St. John's is again encouraging members to get
involved in this great service project!
Gather the family together, go shopping and have each person select an
item for the box. Consider having each person in the family
spend
their own money for their item. Suggested items include: school
supplies, toys, hygiene items, hard candy and more. Once all
the
items are collected, pray over the items and assemble them in the
shoebox. Check out the links below for more
information. Please
return boxes to the church Atrium before November 15, 2009.
