After an oatmeal breakfast, morning devotions (with some great songs), and a few games, the crew headed to the pond. We spent some time clearing away brush which had us wielding all sorts of tools to get the job done. Then! Most of the group headed into the creek to help set posts in place and move rocks.

Marcus and Susan are our counselors for the week and they are showing us a great time! At the time of this posting, the crew (which has renamed itself “Bon Jovi”) is resting and changing out of wet clothes before heading to some team building.

A beautiful day at LOMC with temps in the mid 80s and super sunny. God is good… all the time.

SALT Campers To Get Dirty

July 23rd, 2010 Comments off

SALT campers who travel to LOMC next week need to make sure they bring a couple sets of grubby clothes that can get REALLY dirty.  We’ll be helping LOMC rebuild their pond dam and clothes (including shoes/boots) are going to get extra dirty.

As a rule, don’t bring anything nice to LOMC anyway.  We’re outside most of the day and anything can get grass-stained, dirty, dusty, sweaty and gross.  Sounds like fun doesn’t it?

So make sure you bring a couple sets of dirty work clothes and prepare to be dam builders.  Bringing a couple of garbage bags for wet, dirty clothes is an awesome tip as well.

Cave Camp Returns Home

June 25th, 2010 Comments off

Cave Camp returned home this afternoon a little tired, a little dirty, a little blessed.

We packed up and visited both the Park Store and Visitor Center at Meramec State Park and sadly left the park to head home.

Along the way a brief stop at Arby’s somewhere in Missouri and after a few times dodging construction, we eventually made it back to Illinois (we debated why people pronounce it elle-noise).  A surprise stop in Litchfield, IL along Route 66 for dessert at the Ariston Cafe had us VERY full and completely decadent.  Rain for Bloomington all week but Sullivan, MO was HOT HOT HOT and not a bit of rain anywhere.  We were glad Bloomington was cooler than Missouri and dry!

Glad to be home but we’ll miss all that Cave Camp had to offer.

Busy last full day of Cave Camp

June 24th, 2010 Comments off

This morning we did a walking tour of Fisher Cave led by Diane the park naturalist. The cave is always amazing! Lunch was mostly leftovers and a couple of cavers had several tacos from the night before.

This afternoon a river wade with park naturalists Diane and Richard. We had a great time getting wet and trying to catch fish.

This evening we cleaned the van, enjoyed pizza, shared autographs, went to Sheep Cave entrance, saw Toy Story 3 and did a little packing.

PHEW. Tomorrow pack up, visit the park store, visitor center, lunch and head home. Planning still to be back about 5pm.

A great week of faith with a great group!

This morning we traveled an hour through twisty Ozark roads to visit Bonne Terre Mine which had us taking a pontoon boat ride through the mine which was awesome! This afternoon we hiked down to the river and swam a bit. Tonight we dig into God’s Word, see a park presentation and finally enjoy 7 lbs of pudding!

Well this morning we had a sick camper. Touch of upset stomach and now (late afternoon) the camper is feeling better. However, Kristen became nurse and our camper rested while tbe rest of us floated the river with 90 degree weather and all sun. Stopped for lunch at Green cave and enjoyed the cold flowing water and temp. outside the cave entrance. We couldn’t go in because of White Nose Syndrome. Right now everyone is resting and some are asleep at 3:00pm. All and all God is good!
