Join us for a weekend that you will not forget. We head up to LOMC in Oregon, IL to hear the stories, shout the songs, experience faith, and never want the weekend to end.

“Does God Tweet?” Seems like a strange question, but how do you communicate with God? Isn’t there some way we can get a direct line to Heaven? Indeed, God wants a relationship with us. Come and discover the many ways to talk to God.”

Taste Worship is a highly interactive experience that will strengthen families in a worship lifestyle. Unlike anything you’ve seen before, Taste Worship is a radically new experience where families:
• experience worship together—led by Peder Eide
• expand their vision and understanding of worship
• engage with each other in meaningful conversations
• explore practical “flavors” to connect spiritually throughout the week

IS THIS JUST A CONCERT?

This is DEFINATELY not a concert!  As you can see from the description above, Taste Worship is a worship event for the family; parent and student. Since this is a family event we will be asking families to sit together – sons and daughters sitting with moms and dads. 

WHO CAN ATTEND? Can non-Thrive or Jr. High families attend?

All families with 6-8th graders may attend. This is a family event so we encourage bringing your elementary-age children and senior high youth with you as well. Space is unfortunately limited in the Parish Life Center so were are mindful to have enough space and are focusing on St. John’s Jr. High families only.

WHAT IF A PARENT CANNOT ATTEND? Can my son or daughter attend by themselves?

We really want parents to make every effort to change schedules to attend this event. Trust us, you want to experience Taste Worship with your son or daughter. If that is simply not possible for your family, check with one of your child’s Thrive Guides or another family you are comfortable with and arrange for them to sit with them. We want everyone to attend! No one should stay home on April 18!

WILL CHILD CARE BE PROVIDED?

Since this is a family event, everyone elementary-age and older will be able to participate. Younger children may not be able to fully participate so we are currently looking into the possibility of child care. Please email Rob if child care is needed for your infant/toddler.

IT’S CALLED TASTE WORSHIP, IS THERE A MEAL AS PART OF THE EVENT?

Our regular DinnerTime program is meeting that evening for those who attend that program. Otherwise, no, there is not a meal that night. Please eat dinner before you arrive.  There will be something to snack on that evening but not a meal.  The “Taste” part of the title comes from Psalm 34:8 – O taste and see that the LORD is good;
happy are those who take refuge in him.  (NRSV)

HOW MUCH DOES THE EVENT COST?

FREE! We are not charging for this event and we have very generous members who have helped sponsor Taste Worship. We will be accepting a free-will donation during the event so please consider a donation to help off-set our expenses.

WHO IS PEDER EIDE?

Peder is a Christian who loves to share his gifts as singer, songwriter and storyteller. A Lutheran from Minnesota, Peder travels to share God’s love with churches, camps, conferences, youth events and more. No stranger to St. John’s, Peder led Taste Worship for Thrive in 2008 and came back to St. John’s a few years later performing a concert with his band. Jr. High youth get the opportunity each Fall to attend a retreat led by Peder at LOMC. We can’t wait for him to return and join with us again in ministry.

Come join us to learn more about all of Jr. High Ministry (6-8th grades) with emphasis on our Wednesday evening program called Thrive!

We ask each family to come prepared with $30 payment (online payment available), a few names of same-gender/grade friends you might want to be in a small group with.

We need adults passionate about God and willing to help youth be passionate as well. We already have a few parents ready to be a Thrive Guide next year – how about you?

Due to a low number of registrations we have decided to cancel the event for this year.

Coming Sunday, October 16 is an interactive, values-based workshop designed to help parents teach their pre-teens/teens about money, values and choices.

The event is sponsored by Thrivent Financial and held Sunday, October 16 from 2:00-3:15pm in the Jr. High Room. Join Michelle Schulz from Thrivent as she guides you and your child through a time of understanding all that God has given us.

FREE!  Don’t miss this unique opportunity to discuss such an important topic with your son or daughter. Awesome take-home resources!!!!!

The class is a babysitting preparation program designed for boys and girls ages 11-13. Safe Sitter is a positive experience for each participant. Topics include: babysitting as a business, success on the job, childcare essentials, safety for the sitte, injury management, preventing problem behavior and care of choking (infant and child).

Participants should bring a sack lunch and a drink.
