Thrive Looks At God’s Gift Of Sexuality

Thrive Looks At God’s Gift Of Sexuality

Starting on Wednesday, January 4 we return to Thrive with a look at God’s plan for sexuality. The simple truth is this… Most Junior Highers are sexually active. What? Huh?

The simple truth is sometimes even earlier than 6th grade, but definately as puberty takes a stand, kids are beginning to be sexually active at least in their thoughts. Phew! Right? Wrong.

Way back in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades, kids need basic wisdom regarding sexuality and into Jr. High and beyond it becomes so important for schools, churches, scout groups and more WITH the family to provide good information, great discussion and wonderful support as our kids transform before our eyes.

Our goal in January and February is to provide a place for our 6-8th graders to discuss God’s expectations when it comes to sex. Our focus in not on the biological but rather on the emotional and spirtual aspects of God’s gift of sex. A tall order and only effective if parents take part.

We are praying that this is a time of open-discussion for our kids in small groups as well as a prime opportunity for you to talk openly and listen thoughtfully to your son or daughter especially over the next couple of months. We hope to show the Bible has a lot to say that reflects God’s plan for sex. Parents have the most impact in matters of drugs, alcohol and sexual activity and we hope you will make the most of this opportunity.

Below are the actual outlines for each of the 4 Learning Events that you can download and review yourself and use as a guide to futhering discussion with your 6-8th grader.

January 4: What’s This Sex Stuff All About?

January 18: Sexbusters-Truth and Myth?

February 1: Don’t Go Gaga For Sex

February 15: We’re More Than Friends! Dating

As always, we invite you to attend our Large Group time (Parish Life Center) on any of the above dates if you feel that would help in your family discussions. If you have any questions please download the above outlines and read them through and if you still have thoughts or questions please contact Rob in the church office.

We are looking forward to continuing to help our 6-8th graders thrive in their faith!
