Summer 2011 Changes

Yes, as we are still mourning the end of summer 2010, we are already preparing for SUMMER 2011!  The Junior High Team spent time evaluating and looking at ways to improve our summer experiences and we want to share some important information regarding SALT and Cave Camp for next summer.

Cave Camp Goes On Hiatus

Due to a disease known as White Nose Syndrome, caves have been closing access to the public across the country.  Over 1,000,000 bats have died since 2006 and last year the disease arrived in Missouri (where we go caving).   Due to cave closures in Meramec State Park we have decided to cancel Cave Camp for 2011.  Although there are possibilities where caves might reopen for next summer we wouldn’t be informed until April 2011 which unfortunately doesn’t give us time to make preparations.  We would strongly suggest youth who have attended or thought about attending Cave Camp in 2011 to consider SALT/Faith Works.  Although not a substitute, SALT/Faith Works is an awesome opportunity to also grow in faith, have an adventure and serve others.

SALT Moves To End Of June and Has New Name: FAITH WORKS

In evaluating SALT camp we have arranged with Lutheran Outdoor Ministries Center (LOMC) to move SALT to June 26-July 1.  We feel this date change may allow more youth to attend and avoid conflicts with tournaments, tryouts and the like that seem to take place frequently at the end of July.  LOMC has also changed the name of SALT to Faith Works so be looking to sign up around January for this awesome opportunity to enjoy a summer camping experience, help others through a variety of projects and grow in faith in many unique and fantastic ways.  We hope current 5-7th graders will consider this great opportunity next summer.  Faith Works!

If you have any questions regarding Faith Works or Cave Camp please contact Rob Gieraltowski in the church office.
