6th Grade Boys Build Teamwork

September 11th, 2008 Comments off

The 6th Grade Boys group at Thrive did a fantastic job last night during their Team Building challenge! They certainly set the bar high for all our other Thrive groups this year.

Each each every small group goes through a night of team building games designed to help the group work together, accomplish a goal, and learn to listen and respect one another.

Genesis Has Bright Beginning

September 9th, 2008 Comments off

Our Sunday morning program, Genesis, started this past Sunday with a crowd of 37!

We opened up our hearts and minds to 2 Corinthians and learned that we are to be a new creation in Christ.  As an example we transformed and “made new” Room 200 where we meet each Sunday morning.  New posters, decorations, pictures from summer, door signs for Joy Zone. and three new bulletin boards helped make everything new this school year.

We hope to see you this Sunday (9/14) as we look at some awesome music videos!

PS- There would be pictures but Rob forgot he had the camera in his pocket (not the first time he’s done this).  Yikes!

Madagascar Event Sunday

September 3rd, 2008 Comments off

Mission: Madagascar

You won’t want to miss this!  Open Door Missions is pleased to bring Madagascar missionary and nurse Patricia Bentsen to St. John’s for an inspirational evening that will be fun for the whole family.

Where: Parish Life Center
When: Sunday, September 7
Time: 6:00pm-7:30pm

Patricia assists the Malagasy Lutheran Church Health Department (SALFA) with many projects and ministries, visiting as many SALFA health centers as possible every year.  She will share with us wonderful stories over her 25-year career as a missionary in the remote country of Madagascar.  The Malagasy Lutheran Church has a strong presence in Madagascar and is a companion synod of St. John’s and the Central-Southern Illinois Synod.  Initiated by Open Door Missions, St. John’s is working toward entering a covenant agreement with a long-term Madagascar missionary in 2008.
