I was at Target today. Pretty exciting isn’t it? I was standing in line waiting my turn and suddenly an employee up near the Customer Service counter waved me her way. BONUS! I walked right up and she starting ringing me up which was especially great since I literally had my hands full (carts are for wimps, or those who are smart). Waiting for her to “ring” everything up I glanced over to my left and noticed a really large picture hanging up of two boys looking at a globe. The picture goes along with Target’s giving program where they donate money to local schools. Nice isn’t it? The picture bothered me though. It shouldn’t have, it was a nice enough photo and the kids were happy and everything but still something was missing. The boy on the left didn’t have eyebrows. Yup! The boy on the left didn’t have any eyebrows. Weird. If you go to Target take a look. No eyebrows. I have no idea if the young lad really doesn’t have eyebrows or they were so light-colored they didn’t show up. No matter – they were missing.
What’s missing in your life? God says, “I the LORD search the heart and examine the mind, to reward a man according to his conduct, according to what his deeds deserve.” God knows what may be missing in your life but do you know? Is it prayer, is it compassion, wisdom, worship, helping others, being with others? Maybe you already feel it? God will let you know if something is missing. Of course I’m really talking about how God is missing in your life. Make sure your heart isn’t missing the one thing that makes the difference – GOD!
And get some eyebrows already!

This evening of August 18 a small group of St. John’s members travelled to Peoria Heights, IL to see Brandon Heath in concert at Tower Park. Altough the afternoon was rainy and overcast by the time we arrived at the park the weather was fantastic and SUNNY! 3 junor high youth, Katherine S., Natalie B. and Jennie M. were part of the group of 8 that heard the awesome singer-songwriter Brandon Heath in a special live acoustic concert. Brandon Heath has a great song on the radio called, “I’m Not Who I Was” which is a great, catchy pop song with a great message of hope. Our group enjoyed hearing Peoria Heights Congregational Church’s praise band start off the concert, we snarfed down some pizza, were treated to the fantastic sounds of Heath and then the kids of the group got to meet Brandon and everyone had something signed by him (a shirt, a cd, a napkin or even an arm).
If you get a chance to hear Brandon Heath live, on the radio, or through cd or download – check him out. You can find out more about Brandon’s sound at www.brandonheath.net.

Lutheran Outdoor Ministries Center (LOMC), Oregon, is pleased to announce that the camp was recently awarded a score of 100 points during a re-accreditation process with the American Camp Association (ACA). This certification distinguishes LOMC as a camp that meets mandatory standards for health, safety, and program quality. LOMC has been reaccredited since 1975.
The American Camp Association (ACA) is a community of camp professionals and is dedicated to enriching the lives of children and adults through the camp experience. Standards for accreditation include observation of many areas of the camp, including camper sleeping areas, pool and pond safety, trash disposal and food preparation. Once the site visit is completed and the score announced, LOMC maintains the accreditation for a 3-year period. “We work to provide the safest environment possible and best trained staff possible,” according to Craig Watters, LOMC Program Director. Parents and campers can be assured that the camp is compliant with these mandatory standards when selecting a week-long camp or a retreat weekend to attend.
For more information about the year-round programs at LOMC, visit the website at www.lomc.org, or call the office at 815-732-2220 to receive a brochure.
