Pastor David Bruner
Pr. Dave Bruner serves as our Associate Pastor for Adult Discipleship and Young Adults. Dave was a pastoral intern at St. John’s for the 2008-2009 year; he began serving St. John’s in August 2008. He grew up in Oak Park, Illinois, right outside Chicago, and attended college at Yale University (01), New Haven, Connecticut. After college he lived in New York City, working as a social worker and grant writer at Lutheran Social Services of New York. It was there he began to experience a call to ministry, and he enrolled at Princeton Theological Seminary in 2004.
Over the next three years at Princeton, he ministered in a wide variety of contexts, including a hospital, two different Lutheran churches, and a behavioral health center. He also met his future wife, Becca, a fellow student. The two were married in August 2007; Becca is currently an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA).
In his spare time, Dave enjoys running, hiking, and biking, listening to rock music, reading both fiction and non-fiction, watching movies and television, rooting passionately for the Chicago Cubs, and spending time with his wife doing almost anything.
