Exciting messages from Pastors Westphal and Glesne!

From Pastor Lanny Westphal
For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven (Ecclesiastes 3:1). It’s time to tell you about the transition plans for pastoral ministry at St. John’s.

I have been called to serve as the interim pastor of Christ Lutheran Church of University Park in Dallas, Texas. My last day at St. John’s will be the weekend of June 9/10. I plan to give my full attention to St. John’s as long as I am here. You remain in my prayers daily, and I hope you will pray for me and my next interim congregation.

I will be sad to leave you, but I am so happy that you will have some very fine pastors throughout this time. Pastor Patsy Koeneke will be remaining here as the interim associate pastor. Then Pastor David Glesne will begin his service here. Please show both of them all the love and support that you have shown me during our time together!

From Pastor David Glesne
Dear Brothers and Sisters of St. John’s Lutheran Church,

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

It is with deep humility and great joy that I am writing to accept your Letter of Call to serve as the Senior Pastor of St. John’s.

I am deeply thankful for the efforts of the Call Committee and the prayers of support that they have received as they discerned this call. I am thankful for the leadership of the Congregational Council, the congregation itself, and the guidance of Reverend Lanny Westphal that has enabled St. John’s to heal, mature, and even thrive in this interim period.

Throughout this process I have strongly felt the Holy Spirit’s guidance and look forward to getting to know you, working with you, worshiping with you, and growing with you as we live day by day into God’s amazing grace.

It is my plan to begin my ministry with you on the weekend of June 30/July 1. For your information, I do ask for your understanding as I have one standing pastoral obligation that will take me away from St. John’s on the weekend of August 11/12.

My final note is a request to keep the Congregation of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Reedsburg, Wisconsin, in your prayers, as they begin the process of calling a new Senior Pastor. They have been a blessing to me, and I hope through me to you as I begin my service among you.

September 22
The St. John’s Council has submited the Ministry Site Profile (MSP) to the Synod office. This document assists potential pastors in discerning if they are interested in being considered for call as Senior Pastor at St. John’s. Congregation input from about 120 surveys completed by members this summer were incorporated in the MSP. For example, the following Pastoral Priorities were identified (top five):

  1. Preaching
  2. Worship
  3. Administration
  4. Counseling
  5. Evangelism

When surveyed about the style of leadership which is sought, St. John’s members indicated a desire for a Leader Among Leaders: To serve with lay leadership as one of the “core” leaders in the congregation.

September 17
The Call Committee met with Synod staff August 31 to discuss the process and had a meeting on September 11. Please pray for God’s guidance in matching a Senior Pastor to our congregation. Names of potential candidates can be submitted through the Call Committee for Synod staff consideration. Please contact a Call Committee member if you have a name of a potential Pastor to recommend for consideration.
