This Weekend At St. John's

"Love, love, love. That's what it's all about. 'Cause God loves us we love each other. Mother, father, sister, brother. Everybody sing and shout. 'Cause that's what it's all about!" That is the first verse of a very popular camp song, which many of us have sung in a variety of experiences. It is also a verySt. John's excellent summary of St. Paul's 13th Chapter of I Corinthians. Although this particular text is a very popular one for weddings, the focus is really not on romantic love, but rather God's self-giving love (agape love), expressed in such a grace-filled way, in the person of Jesus Christ. Paul says that no matter what "spiritual gift" you have, no matter how much faith, hope and trust you have . . . the greatest "spiritual gift" is the gift of love! In this week's Gospel (Luke 4:21-30), Jesus shows us that the love He represents pushes beyond human boundaries and categories. Mercy and healing come to all, including those who may be viewed as outsiders. Join us for worship this weekend.

Prayer of the Day

Almighty and ever-living God, increase in us the gifts of faith hope and love; and that we may obtain what you promise, make us love what you command, through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.  Amen.
