WORSHIP FOR THE SECOND WEEKEND IN ADVENT St. John's

The second weekend in Advent includes a Gospel text from Luke 3:1-6. In the person of John the Baptist, we read that John was delivering a strong but crucial message for the people to hear, "preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins." Such words of repentance are certainly called for in our time, whether they come from political leaders or sports heroes . . . from business leaders or entertainers . . . from family members and ultimately from ourselves. We live in a day of "finger-pointing and judgment toward others." It is always easier to critique the behavior of others than it is to look at our own lives.

As John the Baptist prepares the way for the coming of Jesus, he calls us to "Expect the Unexpected." Join us for worship this weekend and learn what this means. Make Advent a special time in your life and in the life of your family and make your worship an integral part of that experience.

Prayer of the Day: Stir up our hearts, Lord God, to prepare the way of your only Son. By his coming give to all the people of the world knowledge of your salvation; through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Alive in Christ,

The Reverend Knight Wells
