Worship This Weekend
This weekend is the 6th Sunday
after Pentecost. In the Gospel from Matthew 10, Jesus declares
the sobering message that his words may not bring peace, but at
times division. However, St. Paul in the 2nd Lesson from
Romans 6, reminds us that in baptism we are buried with Christ so
that we may walk in "newness of life." As we advocate for
justice and lose our lives for the sake of others, we need not
fear. In our baptismal promise from God is that we are
loved and cared for and we are marked with the cross of Christ
forever. The cross shapes our lives in ways that are both
fulfilling and challenging. As we look to our God for what we
need, God moves us to ways of serving, leading and learning.
God continues to teach us, if we will only
listen.
Pastoral Search
Update
We received the news from our potential
pastoral candidate earlier this week, that he as withdrawing
his name from consideration. With disappointment, we
honored his request and wish him well in his discernment
process as he seeks a call to a congregation. For
this obvious reason, the special congregational meeting
scheduled for Sunday is being
canceled.
Facility Planning
Update
Informational meetings continue in the
weeks ahead, with the next available one at 9:00 a.m. in Fellowship
Hall, led by our Facility Planning Leadership Team. If you
have questions, please contact any member of the team. You
will find their names on our website, under Facility
Planning.
Special Prayers
SPECIAL
PRAYERS are requested for safety for our Cave Campers this coming
week and for the children and families experiencing a wonderful week
of First Communion instruction, which begins on Monday, June 23,
2008. This week-long event provides a terrific experience that
helps children understand and appreciate the sacrament of Holy
Communion.
Prayer of the Day
Teach us, good Lord God, to serve you as you deserve,
to give and not to count the cost, to fight and not to heed the
wounds, to toil and not to seek for rest, to labor and not to ask
for reward, except that of knowing that we do your will, through
Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen. (From
