JESUS - THE GOOD SHEPHERD

The image of the Good Shepherd shows us how the risen Christ brings us to life. On the stained glass window above the altar at the church I grew up in, in Omaha, Nebraska, I was visibly reminded every time I was in church, of this powerful image of Jesus, as the Good Shepherd . . . a relationship of mutual knowledge and love between the shepherd and the sheep. The shepherd's willingness to lay down his life for the sheep shows his love. Our lesson from 1 John 3:16-24 illustrates what it means to lay down our lives for one another, by the example of sharing our wealth with any sister or brother in need. It is in our deeds and in our actions that we share the love of God and thus fulfill God's commandments for us! This weekend the children of our Crusader and Chimes Choirs are presenting the story of Joseph . . . From the Pit to the Palace . . . at both of our Community of Joy worship services at 9:00 and 10:15 AM.

  • Remember to mark your calendar for our Groundbreaking Event - June 7, 2009 - immediately following the 10:15 AM worship services - Bring your shovel, spade . . . your whole family . . . picnic lunch to follow . . . Let's celebrate together the excitement that is part of being A Church Alive!

PRAYER OF THE DAY: O Lord Christ, Good Shepherd of the sheep, you seek the lost and guide us into your fold. Feed us and we shall be satisfied; heal us and we shall be whole. Make us one with you, for you live and reign with the Father and Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Alive in Christ,

The Rev. Knight Wells
