According to Craig Groeschel, a Christian atheist is anyone who claims they believe in God but doesn’t actually live like it. He should know—he used to be one himself. After several years of very successful ministry, Groeschel had to make a painful admission—although he believed in God, he was leading his church as if God didn’t exist.
In his wonderful book The Christian Atheist, Groeschel fleshes out the picture of what Christian atheists are like. His book has chapters like “When You Believe in God but Aren’t Sure He Loves You,” “When You Believe in God but Don’t Share Your Faith,” and “When You Believe in God but Still Worry All the Time.” Do any of those describe you? Groeschel’s book is a wonderful tool for describing some of the ways all of us fall short in our faith journey, and offering us an alternative—wholehearted, committed faith in Jesus Christ.
During Lent, we’ll be preaching on a few of the chapters from Groeschel’s book, and recommending it to our small groups. This book is accessible, relevant to your life, and in addition, hilariously funny! We heartily recommend it to you. You can buy a copy from Sandy at the church office for just $5.
